A vocabulary review activity that I use and like is the "chain story" activity. I do this activity in seventh and eighth grade. I put up the words they have learnt on the board and tell them
that we are going to write a story together. I write the first sentence on the board, ask them to choose one word from the list and put it in a sentence, adding to the story. The students are allowed to repeat / use a word more than once and their sentences do not have to be complicated or long.
In my opinion, this activity works well because, at this level, students are required to write paragraphs and passage, which they find very difficult. Throughout this activity they review vocabulary vocabulary items, use them in meaningful sentences and become more aware of how to write paragraphs and stories. It gives opportunities for weak and strong pupils to participate in class.
